Boreal: Google is bringing a new Chromecast model
Google does not usually bring new models of Chromecast to market. If you want, you can still find a year old model of 1080 pixels in the market. However, multiple rumors in the technology industry suggest that the company may also plan to launch a new Chromecast with the new Google TV.
According to various documents and sources, the new Chromecast's codename is 'Boreal'. And 9 to 5 Google says according to their sources, it may come to market by the end of this year.
It is not possible to know the details of its hardware specification from the leaked information. Although the general calculation says that the power and resolution of the processor should be improved.
Sources from XDA and others say that after March 31, Android TV will need support for the AV1 video format, which is not present in Chromecast, which now comes with Google TV. Google will probably support a number of common claims. For example, increasing the size of storage.
If the leaked information proves to be accurate, the next question is whether it will replace the current Chromecast, or come up with a new high-performance model. The current Chromecast 4K in the market supports HDR. Engadget says it is more likely to replace the old model. However, it is clear that the upgrade will suffice because Google has given it a new code name.
Google does not usually provide a separate name for minor upgrades.
