Entering Corporate World? Know these office etiquettes !

Entering Corporate World? Know these office etiquettes!

We went to a multinational company with a few friends to survey for a varsity course report. Before leaving, I started flipping through the internet to see what kind of etiquette to follow when going to the company. Although he left the company for a day on that journey, I realized that I have to follow such etiquette every day in my career. It is important to follow these etiquettes in the corporate world. But it is not uncommon for us to make many mistakes due to a lack of knowledge about this subject. So after entering the corporate world, we need to know these etiquettes so that we do not have any problem with following the etiquette. And before entering the corporate world, if you want to know about etiquette, you have to read this article.

1. Work ethic

It all depends on the office you are working in or going to work in and your behavior there. The culture of one company may differ from the culture of another company. For example, in American companies, people feel comfortable talking with one hand away. Where companies in Europe talk to each other while standing at a distance of 12 inches or less. Similarly, in our country, the culture of different companies in the corporate world can be different.

In many companies, you can take your pet dog or cat if you want; But in other companies, your coworker or your superiors may be very upset by your behavior. In that case, you can easily follow any culture that does not hurt the company's caste, religion, or nationalism. And that will be the sign of professionalism.

2. Note the name

Naturally, when we meet a new person, we know his name first. Since we remember people by name, when you first meet someone at work, pay attention to their name. If you have trouble pronouncing someone's name, ask them their name again.

Many times we forget the names of others, in which case be polite and ask them names again. And remember, even if friends give each other many different names, no one's name can be distorted in the workplace. Whose name should be called by that name? Because the person whose name you are trying to distort may not like it. For example, if you are called by a perverted name instead of your name, you may not like it. So be careful when using someone's name.

3. Shake hands eye to eye

Handshake is a way of public business greetings. A strong handshake means that the person has met the needs of the two very well, and if the handshake is weak, then the day will be badly remembered.

Usually, the superiors raise their hands to shake hands. However, if they do not extend their hand first, you can still extend your hand. Keep an eye on the person in front of you while shaking hands and smile. Those who do not keep their eyes on the person in front of them when shaking hands are considered to lack confidence and honesty. In other words, if you want to bring confidence in yourself or if you want to prove yourself confident, keep an eye on the handshake.

4. Pay attention

When someone is talking in front of you, listen to them, shake your head or smile. These behaviors reveal that you are listening to him. Listening carefully to someone means giving importance to their thoughts.

But no one's words can be interrupted. One of the worst kinds of bad habits is to interrupt someone's speech. If you want to say something in the middle of someone's words, you can politely explain it through your gestures. But waiting for someone to finish is considered a kind of humility.

5. Wear appropriate clothing

In many companies, the dress code has been relaxed in recent times. But that doesn't mean you can go to the office later, whatever you like. No matter how much we say ‘no book needs to be judged by its cover’, in an immediate response to something but that’s exactly what we do. Even many studies have shown that the first thing people notice about someone is how they feel. At first glance, this is what initially affects the other.

There is a big difference between college and university life in terms of professional life. In college and university life we can wear any kind of clothes we want. But after entering the corporate world, it is not possible. Because almost all companies have to follow the dress code. This is one of the professional jobs.

The office must go after the dress in accordance with a certain dress code. Choose colors like white, blue, gray, or brown, as these colors indicate the official attire. Again the bright colors are quite incongruous in the corporate office. Rather, light-colored clothing introduces quite a professional outfit.

And before going to the office, you must iron clothes and go later. Never go to the office after wrinkled clothes. Because as I said before, this is not a university or college classroom. Adhering to the dress code in the corporate world is an excellent example of professionalism. Remember, looking at the effort to bring smartness to your clothes shows how much interest and effort you will show at work.

For men:

  • Men should wear plain shirts and pants. Make sure the two colors are consistent. You can wear light-colored shirts and dark-colored pants or vice versa. Do not wear any kind of designed shirt. Wear formal office shirts.
  • The shirt should be tucked into the pants later. Wear a full sleeve shirt. Do not fold the sleeves of the shirt.
  • It is best to wear a silk tie to look professional. Do not wear any kind of a designed tie. The tie should not be too small or too big. The edge of the tie should be worn so that it reaches the bark of the belt. Note that the thin tie is not suitable for office use.

  • Try wearing a black or brown leather belt. Do not use glamorous designs or thick-skinned belts in the office.

  • Wear socks that match the dress.
  • Avoid wearing shoes that make noise. Use soft leather shoes of black or brown color. Make sure the shoes are polished and the laces are tied properly. Don't go to the office after sports shoes or sneakers.
  • Use a mild perfume or deodorant.

For women:

  • Refrain from wearing clothing that exposes too much of the body. Wear clothes that fit you best. Avoid extra tight or loose clothing.
  • Note the difference between party and office attire. Never go to the office after a low neck blouse. ‘Deep back’ or ‘noodle straps’ blouses cannot be worn in the office in any way. Refrain from going to the office after a transparent sari.
  • Those who like to wear western clothes can wear light-colored shirts and dark-colored pants.

  • Refrain from going to the office after heavy jewelry. Do not wear extra make-up or go to the office with a make-up box in between professional behavior. So refrain from these actions. You can use nail polish in natural shades to trim your nails.
  • Refrain from going to the office after wearing high heels.
  • Make sure the color of your handbag matches the color of the clothes.

6. Stay clean

No matter what clothes you wear, it is very important to always be clean. Comb hair, trim beards, cut nails, and clean before going to the office. Make sure that your clothes do not smell bad. If this happens, no one will feel comfortable sitting around you at work.

7. Keep the workplace clean

Keep the place where you work in the office clean. An old coffee cup on your desk, unnecessary paperwork will distract you from your work, and others will be annoyed to see this untidy desk. Your colleagues, superiors, and others in the office may wonder how carefully a person who can't keep his desk clean will do his job.

Your workspace can enhance your professional image. So clean your workplace very carefully. Use a garbage can if needed and arrange to dispose of the garbage in that place two or three times a week.

8. Be aware of used items

When I was a child in school, I used to see that as soon as the teachers left the board, a competition would start over who would go first and delete the board. Gradually, as I got older, this competition started to decrease. Not only did it decrease, it almost stopped. Growing up, we became so oblivious to the various things we used to do, that we took one thing from one place and put it in another place at the end of the work and then went home without finding it when we needed it.

When working in the office, you have to share and use many things starting from printers and staplers. In that case, the most important thing to keep in mind is that the thing is being taken from where it is to be left at the end of the work. There is no possibility of losing the thing later. And when you use something, make sure that it is not used by anyone else to use it later. You will always keep your dirty things clean. Then you will see that it is nice that the professional work method will be introduced in the office. You can also always use cleaners to get to work.

9. Respect everyone

Everyone knows that everyone in an organization wants to advance their career. If you just want to climb the ladder to the top of your career by thinking of each other as competitors, your relationship with your coworkers will be in a very bad state.

Be nice to your coworkers, other members of your team on a project or even an intern or CEO of the company, respect everyone. You will see that you are getting feedback like that in return.

Let me tell you a story I heard from my father. In his words, “Our office manager does not help anyone like that. But he talks to everyone so nicely and respects everyone that everyone is satisfied with him. When he asks someone to do something, the people in the office do their work with great interest before the deadline.

Once some people came to the office to threaten him due to land issues. He treated them so nicely, offered them tea and biscuits in his room, treated them so well, and treated them with such respect that even the people who came to threaten him were fascinated and hugged him and left. ”

In other words, you understand, if you use nice and respect everyone, nothing can happen! Just as you can maintain your professionalism by respecting everyone in the office, you can become the centerpiece of your office.

10. Hold the door

When you open the door and go somewhere, notice if someone is coming behind you. If someone comes, keep the door open for him. Let him go then you go. Even after getting on the elevator, if you see someone coming, keep the elevator door open for him. This is not just Corporate World, it is a universal etiquette.

11. Refrain from creating additional shares or distances

Draw a line between your personal life and your professional life. Don't go to work and tell your coworkers the story of what happened in your personal life. This is not a suitable job for the workplace.

Refraining from sharing anything extra doesn't mean you have to distance yourself from coworkers. Your coworkers may want to know a little bit about you. In that case, you have to keep in mind which things are like to say to colleagues at work and which things are not like to say.

Talking about politics and religious issues is considered inappropriate in almost every company. In that case, be careful. And if you have a personal or illness that will affect your work, talk to your office manager or your superiors separately.

Remember, you may find personal satisfaction in saying a lot about your personal life, but your coworkers may not feel comfortable listening to them or disclosing their personal information.

12. Let everyone do as they please

You probably love talking to a lot of people. But there may be many who do not feel comfortable working between words. Give them enough opportunity to work. Instead of working in the workplace, do not talk to anyone or listen to anyone else.

Don't complain unnecessarily

If you notice a matter in the office that violates the rules and ethics of the office, get the news to the right person without whining about it.

If you have a complaint about something else, think before you speak. Try to find a solution and speak thoughtfully while discussing the issue. Instead of labeling the issue as flawed or wrong, publish it as an opportunity to improve it.

You can often hurt someone else through your complaint. Suppose after lunch at a meeting you say the food was too bad. Your colleague in charge of lunch may feel bad about it. So think before you complain and present the matter in a nice way by explaining how to make it better later without making it a complaint.
